Marpa and Milarepa anniversaries celebrated at Jangchubling
During the anniversaryThe pujas for the anniversaries of Marpa Chökyi Lodrö (1012–1097) and Milarepa (1040–1123) lasted for 2 days (March 10 and 11), the 14th and 16th of the Tibetan 1st month (no 15th day this year in the Tibetan Calendar). March 10 marked the anniversary on Milarepa and the next day, the full moon and Festival of the Display of Miracles (Chotrul Duchen) marked the anniversary of his master Marpa. For all Buddhist, but especially for the Kagyu tradition Marpa and Milarepa are the foremost forefathers of our tradition, their blessings and realizations are the basis of our lineage and through their unwavering discipline in collecting, translating and practicing the teachings of Tilopa and Naropa the Kagyu Lineage has developed and benefitted innumerable beings.

Puja at Jangchubling MonasteryHis Holiness attended and on the first day he escorted a very precious statue of Milarepa filled with relics and auspicious substances into the main temple at Jangchubling and gave a reception blessing everyone with the statue. On the second day the monks from Kagyu College joined the monastery to recite the complete collection of the Vajra Songs called the Gur Tso (Ocean of Songs) of Milarepa all day in their traditional melodies from the compilation that His Holiness Chetsang Rinpoche had put together. Simultaneously the nuns at Samtenling Nunnery headed by Drupon Sonam Kunga also recited the Gur Tso. This beautiful celebration revering the Kagyu Lineage masters has been a tradition at Jangchubling for decades.
