The Karmapa visits Songtsen Library and Kagyu College

H.H. the Karmapa at Kagyu CollegeIn the afternoon of February 28, 2008 around 3:00 pm the Gyalwang Karmapa visited the Songtsen Library. He was welcomed by the monks and nuns of Drikung Kagyu Institute, Kagyu College, Samtenling Nunnery and Songtsen Library staff. Besides that many devotees from the nearby Tibetan settlements of Deckyiling, Rajpur and Mussoorie had also came to welcome him.

Songtsen Library's director Dr. Tashi Samphel showed him whole library and explained to him about the basic objective of the library, the teaching programs, workshops, seminars, etc. offered by the Library.

After seeing the whole library, Dr. Tashi Samphel introduced the staff members of D.K. Institute, Kagyu College, Samtenling Nunnery and Songtsen Library to the Karmapa. Then the general public was also given a chance to meet the Karmapa.

In the evening the Karmapa spontaneously expressed his interest to visit the Shedra (Kagyu College) as well. This visit came as a total surprise because as per the schedule, His Holiness Gyalwa Karmapa was only to visit Songtsen Library.

The Karmapa visited the College Temple and at the request of Khenchen Konchok Gyaltsen Rinpoche he gave a brief speech to the College students. In his address, the Karmapa reminded his audience of the great importance of having such an ancient lineage practice like the Drikung Kagyu. He also stated that the Drikung Community plays a vital role in the preservation and prospering of the Kagyu sect, which is one of the four major religious schools of Tibetan Buddhism. He also gave his perception on dealing and studying Buddhism. At the conclusion he reminded us, how lucky we are to have His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche and His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chungtsang Rinpoche as supreme heads and their unsurpassable blessings.
